Birdwatching tour:

With a small group (max. 8 persons) we leave the Waterfall Lodge at  6am to take advantage of the spectacular early morning chorus.  Rara Avis unique location in mid-elevation virgin rainforest offers a wide range of mid-elevation and montane bird species.  Over 386 species of birds have been seen at Rara Avis, including several rarities including Bare-necked Umbrellabird (Cephalopterus glabricollis) and Thicket Antpitta (Hylopezus dives).  A wide variety of tanagers,
antbirds, antwrens, hummingbirds, and many other species are seen daily. While birds are the focus this is also an excellent time to see local mammals including anteaters, tapirs, and agouti.  We return to the lodge in time for the 7:30am breakfast.  This tour can be arranged at the lodge with the guides and does not need to be pre-booked. Do not forget your camera and binoculars.

Rate per person $15 Maximum 8 people per tour

Night walk tour:

After a bit of relaxation after dinner, our night walk leaves the lodge at 7:30 pm.  In the company of local guides enjoy the unique sounds and sights of the night.  You will have the opportunity to see interesting rainforest night life including amphibians (glass frogs are often seen), insects, and mammals including Four-eyed Possums and Kinkajous.  See a completely different side of the rainforest than you see during the day.  This tour can be arranged at the lodge with the guides and does not need to be pre-booked.

Rate per person $15.
Máximum 8 people per tour
