We wanted an authentic rain forest experience. We saw so many animals, we loved it! It is right in the heart of the rain forest, with nothing else around.
Great for birds, hiking; isolated; Wilberth knows so much if you're lucky enough to have him as a guide; food wonderful!
We loved the remoteness of Rara Avis, loved that there was such a sense of struggle and adventure in the process of getting there (roads and tractor) that when we finally did arrive at the lodge, it felt like we had earned a tremendous gift of paradise, and it was that much more special because of the lack of frills. Rara Avis seems to attract and encourage a particular kind of traveler - those who truly want to see nature as it is, and don't need distractions of tablecloths or electricity in their rooms.
A truly remote location, where you can really watch nature and not so many other tourists. Just rainforest! The number of trails, so you can go on different hikes every day, varying between longer and shorter ones. The animals you can see, if you have enough time.
It the only place I know, where you are completely in the rainforest and where you also spend the night there. The rainforest-sounds and hike the different trails are great. The staff is very friendly and the volunteers I met know a lot a take their time for the visitors.
